You.  At college.

Welcome!

Record numbers of high school students are graduating from high school and are college-bound. These kids are better prepared for going to college and busy with academics, sports, music, art, part time jobs and extracurricular activities. There is plenty of information on the internet and in dozens of college planning books about the college admissions and financial aid process. Yet, with so much information, the noise overload is deafening.

It's getting harder to understand what a college wants out of an applicant. Are grades the most important thing? Test scores? Essays? What about "legacy" admissions? What about "recruited athletes? What is the difference between a Division 1, 2 or 3 school? Is a public school cheaper than a private school? What are merit scholarships? When should a student begin the college search process? What about financial aid for the middle class student? How does a student build a college list? What is a good college match? What is a "safety" school? What is a "reach" school?

With public high school ratios of 350 students (or more) + to 1 high school counselor, much of the process has been relegated to students and their parents trying to figure out what comes next. Preparing for college begins when a student starts high school and often before the student even thinks about his or her future college plans. Getting into college isn't a one size fits all process.

While no counselor can guarantee admission to any school, we can offer the student with valuable and individualized knowledge about college admissions and financial aid that will help them to understand the best schools for them and how to increase their chances of admission, as well as strategies that may help them to get more financial aid, as well as possible scholarships. Helping the student maximize his or her strengths, while helping them to discover many good match schools, including many college options that the student may not have even considered, is our focus.

College rankings and news reports about college admissions often add to the college admissions hysteria. Our goal is to help lead the student through the process of learning about and researching multiple college choices, and understand their “likely”, “good match” and “reach” college options, as well as keep the student “on track” during the process. We can be a reality check, a trusted information source, as well as providing a buffer for the parents and student during the often stressful college application process.

My College Admissions Coach is here to help ease the stress for student and parents, and we would be happy to create a personal plan that will help your student each step of the way. We assist students in person in the Los Angeles area, or through our virtual online advising system. Contact us today for information about a custom advising plan that meets your student's needs!
